What is the National Association of Youth Commissions (NAYC)?

The National Association of Youth Commissions (NAYC) is a first of its kind organization dedicated to advancing youth rights and fostering collaboration of youth commissions, councils, and committees across the nation. While there are many city and town youth commissions, there is not a platform for all of these groups to come together and collaborate towards a set of collective goals. This is what the NAYC hopes to offer.

Membership to the NAYC is open to any member of a youth commission, council, or committee. The only limitation is that a member cannot exceed the age of 25. Other than this, they simply have to be a member of an existing youth commission, council, or committee. 

The NAYC was founded on, and continues to work towards, the following goals:

  • Establish a youth commission, council, or committee in every municipality in the United States, while also making these groups as accessible as possible
  • Advocate for the passage of meaningful legislation in local, state, and federal governments relating to and benefiting young people
  • Provide a platform for every youth commission in the nation to share best practices, collaborate, and work as one

Starting a youth commission can be difficult, which is why we provide resources, guidance, and support to young leaders trying to establish youth commissions. If you need any help starting a youth commission, contact us. 

Member commissions gain:

  • Access to a national network of like-minded peers
  • The opportunity to collaborate with other youth leaders
  • Participation in events, workshops, and advocacy efforts
  • The opportunity to represent your community on a nationwide level

The NAYC supports youth leadership by providing young people with the opportunity to create youth commissions in their community, increase youth access to government, and make youth commissions more open to youth. 

If your youth commission is interested in joining the NAYC, simply fill out the form provided below. This will take you to an easy, short survey to fill out. If there are any issues with your form, the NAYC will contact you. Otherwise, we will contact you regarding next steps. 

No. Youth commissions are able to join the NAYC completely for free, and are not required to pay dues for any part of their membership.
